    Children’s Art Therapy uses various art techniques and materials to explore feelings, develop social skills, reconcile emotional conflicts, foster self-awareness, reduce anxiety, and increase self-esteem, as well as simply learning to enjoy the art process and all it has to offer. Art opens the doors to communication in a non-threatening way, allowing great success for all!

    Below is our Summer Schedule happening at Celebrate Life Studio, 1200 Park Avenue in Hoboken! Our 4-week groups begin the second week of July and end the first week in August- a great way to check us out and see what art therapy is all about!
    Space is limited.

    Tuesdays (July 12th, 19th, 26th and August 2nd):
    9:30 - 10:20: Ages 2-4, Mommy or Daddy and Me group
    3:30 - 4:20: Ages 4-6, Art Therapy group
    4:45 - 5:35: Ages 6-8, Art Therapy group

    Thursdays (July 14th, 21st, 28th and August 4th):
    2:30 - 3:20: Ages 4-6, Art Therapy group

    All 4-week sessions are being offered for $200 (10% discount for siblings).

  • Take me out to the ballgame with Special Olympics

    For the second season, the Hoboken Recreation department, Hoboken Family Alliance and Special Olympics have partnered to offer up two levels of baseball clinics starting Tuesday, April 28 on the Little League Field.

    The program is open to area individuals with cognitive disabilities ages 3-5 for T-Ball and 6-12 for Developmental Baseball.

    Children enrolled in the T-Ball program will learn baseball basics including how to hit the ball, run the bases, and the spirit of team work. Youths enrolled in the Developmental will learn and practice the game play and technical aspects of the sport and is designed for the emerging athlete.

    The program runs Tuesdays from April 28 - June 9 at the Little League Field from 3:30 PM - 4:15 PM. Participation is free but registration is required. Please email Andrea Moore at avm@nullsonj.org today to enroll your child today.

Classes will prepare your student for the challenging Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) and the Secondary School Admissions Test (SSAT).   • Athletic programs for children with special needs return for Fall

    After an incredible summer with the 3rd Annual Hoboken Bike Camp for children with special needs, the HFA is happy to report that soccer with the Red Bulls and the Special Olympics Young Athlete Program are back for the fall.

    For the third year, the Red Bulls will operate is Believe program that teaches youths with cognitive disabilities to play soccer. The free program begins  Sunday, Sepetember 15 and runs through November 10. The  clinic runs every Sunday from 3 p.m. - 4 p.m. at the City's Multiservice Center, located at 2nd and Grand. The program is open to 3-year-olds to 18-year-olds. The sessions will group playing partners by age and ability. You can register today at: http://Red Bulls Believe

    Aditionally, the Young Athlete Program begins on Sept. 28 and will run  each Saturday from 10 am - 11 am at the St. Francis Community Center through Nov. 2. The program is open to 2.5-year-olds to 7-year-olds and is designed to help teach athletic fundamentals  to help children prepare for Special Olympics competition, which is open for individuals eight and older.     The programs are part of a broader push by the city of Hoboken and parents of Hoboken to continue to offer and expand recreational and sporting opportunites for children with disabilities.


    Improv classes are integral for helping kids develop skills like self confidence,  leadership and communication, public speaking, and team building.  Students learn to use their imagination and creativity through fun improv games and exercises that teach building scenes and working together with other aspiring young performers in a non-competitive environment. Kids in all levels of  acting and performing experience are encouraged to take improv classes.

    Spring and Summer 2013 will offer the following Improv Comedy Classes:

    Spring: May 14-June 18        Summer 1: July 9-Aug 13        Summer 2: Aug 20-Sept 24

    Children’s Improv - 6 weeks (2 hour classes) Tuesdays 3:30pm-5:30pm
    •Ages 4-6 -$250
    •Ages 6-9 -$250

    Every week children will participate in warm-up, technique and performance improv games. They will learn team building exercises, play improv games, and learn to think on their feet. These
    classes are designed to build confidence and to learn to constructively direct creative thought.

    Classes are held at The Melting Pot on Tuesdays from 3:30pm to 5:30pm (100 Sinatra Dr Hoboken NJ)

    Improv 1 - 6 weeks (2 hour classes) Wednesdays 3:30pm-5:30pm
    •Ages 6-9 -$250
    •Ages 10-13 -$250

    This class is about fun! The instructor will use theatre games and physical exercises to teach kids the basics of improvisation. Students will be encouraged to use their imaginations as they learn to create characters, build scenes and invent whole worlds without ever using a costume, prop or set piece. Students will also practice teamwork and listening skills to help them work as an ensemble and learn the discipline of
    performance .

    Classes are held at The Melting Pot on Wednesdays from 3:30pm to 5:30pm (100 Sinatra Dr Hoboken NJ)


    Each session ends with a final showcase where students can showcase what they’ve learned  through theatre games, story-telling, and character building live in front of an audience of friends, family and peers.

  • Art classes in oil painting at 7 Fine Arts!

    Classes start May 6 at 4:45pm!

    Have you or your child always loved art, but thought you would never be happy with your painting ability? If you have been longing to create masterpieces of your own, then this is the class for you! I will teach you to paint with the very same techniques used by the old masters to create their most famous works. No special skills are needed except the love of art and a passion to succeed.

    About the artist

    Sheri Alimonda is a professionally trained portrait artist who loves sharing her knowledge of art with others.  Her training began at age 12 at the Art School of Oil Painting, where she learned the technique she  will be teaching. 

    Sheri has painted live at the Museum of TV and Radio in Beverly Hills, the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and while painting live at the NY Art Expo was discovered and nominated for the first ever “Academy Awards” for art, 

    the ArtTV Awards. She has been a guest speaker aboard Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruise Ships as well as in Europe aboard Oriental Lines.  

    She has appeared on numerous tv shows including Good Day New York.

  • Jersey City Children’s Theater & Nimbus Dance Works Present:

    Bard Party: Shakespeare, Dance and Song (5 to 9 year olds) 
    June 24th-August 9th

    Come travel through the many fascinating worlds of William Shakespeare as we explore the rhymes, songs and physical transformations that make the bard great (and SO MUCH FUN!). Story Theater techniques and improvisation games along with creative movement and traditional approaches to dance (ballet & modern dance) taught in each camp session allow students to build a scene from a different Shakespeare play each week. Classes are taught by highly experienced artist teachers from JCCT and Nimbus. Special musical guests include Jersey City’s own Andi Gunden from A Sound Start. A final presentation for friends and family is included in the fun. Material will be age appropriate.

    Professional conservatory training!

    Train with best!  Artistic Directors Samuel Pott (Nimbus) and Kathy Hendrickson (JCCT) head an all-star cast of specialists for this weekly intensive.  Students have daily classes in Acting and Spolin Improvisation Techniques as well as rigorous dance technique classes in Ballet and Modern. Special electives in Improvisation, Monologue/Audition Preparation, pointe classes (ballet), partnering and Vocal Techniques are included in the curriculum. Workshop sessions with Local and NYC Agents, Industry Professionals and representatives from college performing arts programs will round out the weekly curriculum.
