  • HFA 12th Annual Community Neighbor Awards Grants

    The Hoboken Family Alliance is now accepting nominations for our 12th annual Community Neighbor Awards to be granted in 2015 at our Cabin Fever Event at Brandt School, 215  9th Street, Hoboken, NJ ,  scheduled for February 8, 2015. 

    Non-profit organizations may apply directly or be nominated by a member of the community. They must be not-for-profit and serve children or families in Hoboken and/or Hudson County. To be considered, the organization must designate what the money will be used for, and how much they are requesting. We request that the money be utilized to directly provide a service for families or children, and not for overhead/administrative costs.   Award recipients will be asked to attend the Cabin Fever Festival on Feb. 8, 2015, in Hoboken, to receive their award. 

    In your grant submission, please include:
    • Brief description of the program and/or services
    • Organization contact name, address and phone number
    • Organization 501(c)3 non-profit tax id number
    • Amount requested
    • How many people will be affected by the receiving of the grant
    • Why the program should receive an HFA Community Neighbor Award
    The final deadline for submission is Monday, December 15, 2014.

    Award recipients will be chosen at the discretion of the HFA Board of Directors and only from those nominees that meet the grant criteria.

  • Hoboken Police to Host Annual Night Out Against Crime Event in Church Square Park -Tues, Aug 5

    On Tuesday, August 5, 2014, The Hoboken Police Department, along with Chief Edelmiro Garcia Jr., will be hosting “National Night Out in Hoboken”.  National Night Out, also known as “America’s Night Out Against Crime”, is an annual, nationwide event that allows the City of Hoboken,  its’ first responders, and local businesses,  to give back to their community.  The annual event will take place in Hoboken’s centrally located Church Square Park, where a large slate of family and youth-oriented activities is scheduled to take place between the hours of 5:00pm and 9:00pm.  This year, The Hoboken Police Department will be dedicating the night in memory of Police Detective Madhu Chohan who lost a courageous battle with cancer on October 30th, 2013.

  • City of Water Day —July 12, 2014 (10am – 4pm)

    Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance is pleased to invite you to participate at City of Water Day, a day of entertainment, education & adventure celebrating the potential of our waterfront!

    On Saturday, July 12th, thousands from throughout the metropolitan region will make their way to the waterfront for the annual City of Water Day, presented by the Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance.

    A FREE day of entertainment, education, and adventure celebrating the world-class potential of our waterfront, City of Water Day will be held in Maxwell Park, Hoboken, NJ, and Governors Island, NY.

    Exhibitors, family activities, arts and crafts, science and environmental demonstrations, games, etc.. are welcome.

  • Athletic programs for children with special needs return for Fall

    After an incredible summer with the 3rd Annual Hoboken Bike Camp for children with special needs, the HFA is happy to report that soccer with the Red Bulls and the Special Olympics Young Athlete Program are back for the fall.

    For the third year, the Red Bulls will operate is Believe program that teaches youths with cognitive disabilities to play soccer. The free program begins  Sunday, Sepetember 15 and runs through November 10. The  clinic runs every Sunday from 3 p.m. - 4 p.m. at the City's Multiservice Center, located at 2nd and Grand. The program is open to 3-year-olds to 18-year-olds. The sessions will group playing partners by age and ability. You can register today at: http://Red Bulls Believe

    Aditionally, the Young Athlete Program begins on Sept. 28 and will run  each Saturday from 10 am - 11 am at the St. Francis Community Center through Nov. 2. The program is open to 2.5-year-olds to 7-year-olds and is designed to help teach athletic fundamentals  to help children prepare for Special Olympics competition, which is open for individuals eight and older.     The programs are part of a broader push by the city of Hoboken and parents of Hoboken to continue to offer and expand recreational and sporting opportunites for children with disabilities.

    Celebrate the writing of Maurice Sendak and discover many wild things as we roar,
    gnash, roll and sail off into this wacky adventure!

    Sat. July 20 – The Magic Hat
    Discover the rhyme, rhythm & magic of books as we follow the bouncing hat
    created by Mem Fox that “makes all the magic wherever it sat.”

    Sat. August 17 – Listen to the Rain!
    Stormy storms and windy weather! Explore the beauty and mystery of the sounds of rain using found objects and percussion instruments. Join us as we bring storms to life with the words of
    Bill Martin, Jr. and John Archambault.

    Sat. October 5 – Alice in Wonderland: 1:30-3pm
    This event begins at Shipyard Park and ends at Maxwell Park.
    The Red Queen requests the pleasure of your company as she searches for tarts and plays croquet! Come follow Alice, the White Rabbit and other characters from the Lewis Carroll classics. We’ll search for “six impossible things” and end our journey by meeting a Jabberwocky! Rain or Shine!

    Art in the Park
    Art in the Park is a 6 week creative arts program for toddlers ages 4 & under.
    There are eight 6 week sessions. Sessions take place on different days, in different parks,
    at different times.

    Choose either Pier A or Elysian Park
    • Early Morning sessions: 9am to 10:30am or
    • Mid-Morning sessions: 11am to 12:30pm

    Monday sessions: June 17, 24; July 8, 15, 22, 29
    Wednesday sessions: June 19, 26; July 10, 17, 24, 31

    Elysian Park, Hudson St. bet. 10th & 11th Sts.

    Cost per 6 week session is $25.
    Each session will accept 60 children.
    Child must be accompanied by parent or guardian.

    The Hey-Ya Brothers is a two-man slapstick comedy variety show

    Aug 6 – Music Makes Meis an integrated, educational, music and movement program designed for kids. Our artists perform interactive songs that are designed to educate by utilizing melodies that are catchy and fun.
