  • HFA Summer Food Drive 2017

    Our Summer Food Drive Is in full swing! We have a little over a week remaining until school starts.

    When school’s out for summer vacation, children living in poverty stop receiving free meals Monday through Friday at school and face hunger at home. Often their parents :

    1) work in low-wage jobs,

    2)  are unemployed, or

    3) are disabled.

    We would like to ensure that children in low-income areas in Hoboken continue to receive nutritious meals/snacks during long summer vacations when they do not have access to school lunch or breakfast.
    We would like to invite you to assist us with helping curb hunger by giving a financial contribution.

    Any funds donated will go 100% to purchase/distribute food for Hoboken Families in need.

  • 9th Annual HFA Book, Toy & Pajama Drive for Local Children until Thursday, Dec 22

    The HOBOKEN FAMILY ALLIANCE (HFA) is launching a major book, toy and pajama drive for local children in need, within the ages of newborn to  17 years in the Hoboken / Hudson County area.

    All donations large and small are appreciated. To fulfill HFA mission, we hope to provide a nurturing environment to these children to help them be comforted and feel loved.

    Recipients will include children in local organizations: Division of Youth & Family Services (DYFS), In Jesus’ Name Charities and York Street Project.

    If you’d like to contribute, we have a number of ways to do so:

    1) Pajama and Book Program
    HFA is collecting new pajamas and new books for disadvantaged children. By providing pajamas and books, we are helping to create a warm and nurturing bedtime environment for vulnerable children and young adults living under difficult circumstances.

    Many of these youngsters have been abused or abandoned and in many cases have never enjoyed the simple comfort of having a loving mother or father tuck them in at bedtime. We hope to contribute to a warmer, more loving environment for these children.

    Pajamas must be new and unused for all sizes, infant to age 17. Larger sizes are preferred, but all are appreciated!

    2) Toy Drive
    HFA hopes this event to bring something special to the children (ages infant - 17) and requests all donated gifts be new and unwrapped please.

    Any donation of any size brings holiday cheer for a child who may otherwise not have received any gifts. The items are given to families who cannot afford to buy presents, so the children can open a gift that is given to them by a loved one, not a charity.

    3) Tax Deductible Monetary Donation to Pajama & Toy Drive

    100% of donation will be used towards a tax-free purchase of a toy or a pajama. A tax deductible receipt will be generated to you.

    How to Donate in Person: Both book & pajama and toy drives will run concurrently and have the same drop off locations:

  • Barnes & Noble Bookfair supporting HFA Book Drive until Sat. Dec. 17, 2016

    Every holiday season the Hoboken Family Alliance holds a Pajama & Book Drive (as well as a Toy Drive).

    Barnes & Noble (Tribeca & Online) at 97 Warren Street, NY,NY is supporting our Book drive again by providing a portion of the net sale to be contributed back to HFA to purchase additional books for children in need.   This Book fair will take place until this Saturday, December 17th.

  • Big Fun Toy Drive Kickoff Party – Support Small Business & HFA!

    Big Fun Toys will be holding their Fifth Annual HFA Toy Drive Kickoff Party on Small Business Saturday. Shop locally and support us!

    Date: Saturday, November 26, 2016
    Time: 10am to 8pm
    Location: Big Fun Toys  602 Washington St, Hoboken

    There are special events taking place at Big Fun to celebrate this wonderful day!
    Including:

    • Letters to Santa
    • Raffles
    • Exciting Holiday Toy Demonstrations
    • Store-wide savings for all
    • Special discounts for customers who donate to the Toy Drive and more!

     

    All toys will be donated to local families in need, including from In Jesus’ Name Charities, York Street Project and NJ Child Protection and Permanency (former know as DYFS).


  • Hoboken Family Alliance 14th Annual Community Neighbor Awards Grants

    The Hoboken Family Alliance is now accepting nominations for our 14th Annual Community Neighbor Awards to be granted in 2017 at our Cabin Fever Event at Brandt School, 215 9th Street, Hoboken, NJ  scheduled for February 26 , 2017.

    Non-profit organizations may apply directly or be nominated by a member of the community.

    Organizations must meet the following criteria:

    • Be a tax-exempt organization under IRS Section 501(c)(3).
    • Must serve children or families in Hudson County.
    • Request funding for a special project or program, not to cover administrative or operating expenses.
    • Award recipients (or representative) must attend the Cabin Fever Festival on Feb. 26, 2017  to receive their award.

    Organizations must include the following information to be considered:

    1. Summary of program or project, not to exceed two pages, including:

    • Concise description of program / project / services
    • Amount requested and total project cost
    • Immediate impact it will have on the community
    • Who it will benefit and how many people will be impacted
    • If project is partially funded, will project be implemented
    • Timetable
    • Measurement for success

    2. Mission statement of the organization and a description of the client base and markets it serves.

    3.Proof of 501(c)(3) designation & IRS Tax ID number.

    4.Organization name, contact name, address and phone number  of the representative making the request.

    5. Note: The final deadline for submission is 5 p.m.  Friday, December 9, 2016.

    Award recipients will be chosen at the discretion of the HFA Board of Directors and only from those nominees that meet the grant criteria.

  • Our 8th Annual Toy & PJ Drive was a Success!

    Our local Hoboken Families know the true meaning of giving during the holidays!   Thank you to everyone who generously opened their hearts and donated this season. We have received many generous donations of toys, books and pajamas to our annual drive.

     We greatly appreciated the support and we are happy to have such good partners in our community. We were able to provide hundreds of presents for many children who would have not have received them otherwise.

     Thank you to the following businesses for providing drop box locations: Apple Montessori, Baby Gap, Big Fun Toys, Diamond Gymnastics, Hoboken Library, New York Sports Club North , Pilsener Haus & Biergarten and Tiger Schulmann's Mixed Martial Arts. 

     A special thank you to The Rossini Family for their generous donation to our annual toy/pajama drive. We also received a $500 donation from an anonymous donor.

    Many thanks to  Jeff Jacobs and the Hudson School Families for their abundant gifts donated to our toy drive. Thank you to Jet.com for running a corporate pajama and book drive.

     Special thanks to Kathleen at Big Fun Toys for initiating our Fourth Annual HFA Toy Drive Kickoff Party and continuing the drive though Dec 23! We are very grateful to have this partnership with Big Fun Toys.

     The Hoboken Family Alliance also donated $1500 each to both the Toy drive and Pajama drive.  The toys and pajamas gathered have been donated to local families, including In Jesus’ Name Charities, York Street Project and NJ Child Protection and Permanency (former know as DYFS).We would like express our appreciation and thank each and every one in the community who have made our toy and pajama drive a success!

     Thanks to all of your donations, underprivileged children all over Hudson County had a wonderful holiday season!  Thank you again for making our Toy Drive a huge success in 2015.

  • The 13th Annual HFA Community Neighbor Awards

    The Hoboken Family Alliance is now accepting nominations for our 13th annual Community Neighbor Awards to be granted in 2016 at our Cabin Fever Event at Brandt School (215  9th Street, Hoboken, NJ) ,  tentatively scheduled for February  21 , 2016.

    Non-profit organizations may apply directly or be nominated by a member of the community. They must be not-for-profit and serve children or families in Hoboken and/or Hudson County. To be considered, the organization must designate what the money will be used for, and how much they are requesting. We request that the money be utilized to directly provide a service for families or children, and not for overhead/administrative costs.   Award recipients will be asked to attend the Cabin Fever Festival on Feb. 21, 2016 (tentative), in Hoboken, to receive their award.



    In your grant submission, please include:
    • Brief description of the program and/or services
    • Organization contact name, address and phone number
    • Organization 501(c)3 non-profit tax id number
    • Amount requested
    • How many people will be affected by the receiving of the grant
    • Why the program should receive an HFA Community Neighbor Award

    The final deadline for submission is Friday, December 11, 2015.

  • HFA Fifth Annual Back to School Supplies Drive

    The Hoboken Family Alliance is hosting our Fifth Annual Back to School Supplies Drive
    August 1 to September 12, 2015 to benefit children in need within Hudson County.

    HFA is committed to helping children and youth succeed and ensuring every young person is ready to learn.  Children living at or below the poverty line will find it difficult to get enough to eat this summer as their parents struggle to keep the lights on and make rent – they simply cannot afford to buy backpacks and school supplies.

    Our donations will go to children in need from the following organizations: In Jesus Names Charities, Division of Youth Family Services (DYFS) and York Street Project.

    What’s Needed: NEW Backpacks (Unisex backpacks are preferred if possible), lunch boxes, pencils, pens, pink erasers, two-pocket folders, binders, loose-leaf paper (wide rule), notebooks (both spiral & composition), scientific calculators, protractors, crayons, colored pencils, markers, calculators, rulers, pencil sharpeners with cover, pencil cases, glue sticks, scissors and index cards. Flash drives are also requested for the older children.

    For your convenience, we will have a drop box at Big Fun Toys. Big Fun Toys will be selling backpacks and some school supplies too.

    Drop-off Details: When: Saturday, August 1 to September 12, 2015 at  Big Fun Toys, 602 Washington Street, Hoboken (Mon-Sat. 10-7pm, Sun . 11-6 pm )

    Cash Donations: If you prefer to financially donate, your donation of $25 will provide one backpack for a child, stocked with essential supplies.     We will be ordering supplies as soon as possible, to ensure the children are prepared and ready to start the year right. We will once again provide tax receipts for items donated on an as-requested basis. If you are making a cash donation, your tax receipt will be automatically generated. If you are dropping off items and you would like a receipt for your tax preparation, please leave a copy of your receipt with donation items highlighted, along with your name and address. Please keep a copy of your donation for your records.

    We feel that by being prepared for the first day of school with a backpack and the right school supplies, many children will have the confidence to work towards having a successful school year.
