Special Needs topics are top of mind this week

United Synagogue of Hoboken Parents of children with special needs are invited to a monthly meeting at the United Synagogue of Hoboken on Tuesday, March 2, 7 PM at USH, 115 Park Ave. The topic for the evening: developing an advocacy plan for USH children with special needs.

Liberty Science Center The fun, popular facility hosts its first ever Special Needs Day on Tuesday, March 2 from 9 AM - 4 PM. Guests interested in attending the building-wide event should contact Mary McDonald in advance at 201.253.1214.

Spread the Word to End the Word Wednesday, March 3 is national awareness day to ban use of the R-word. The ongoing effort, which includes rallies and events nationwide, is sponsored by Special Olympics and Best Buddies International. The day  is intended to raise the consciousness of society about the hurtful effects of the word “retard(ed)” and encourage people to pledge to stop using the R-word by making a pledge to stop using it and to encourage others to stop. The campaign is intended to engage schools organizations and communities to rally and promise their support with a goal of reaching 100,000 pledges.
