Hoboken Dance Academy (Updated 2010)
230 Willow Avenue
Hoboken Dance Academy was founded by Michelle Donelson Renda July of 2006. Ms. Donelson Renda had a simple dream of bringing a NYC dance education to the Hoboken Community. Hoboken Dance Academy offers a true dance education that has now reached beyond Hoboken. We currently serve students from Hoboken, Jersey City, Weehawken, Seacaucus, Union City, West New York, Bayonne, Fort Lee and NYC. We also have former students from the Peridance children’s program and Broadway Dance Center children’s program. Ms. Donelson Renda has also been able to obtain some of the finest teaching artists from Manhattan that not only have graced some of the most prestigious stages in NYC and beyond but also have been trained in the art of teaching dance. Hoboken Dance Academy’s teaching philosophy is that each student will be given the opportunity to learn dance in its purest form. The curriculum builds itself upon technique, terminology, pedagogy and execution. We believe that all of our student’s are individuals and have their own reasons for entering our dance program and our goal is to give them a proper dance education whether their goal is to dance professionally or as an extra curricular activity. We believe that all children can be taught and learn in an academic and expressive environment. Hoboken Dance Academy builds strong dancers with an appreciation for dance as a true art form.
Our instructors have been or are currently with: Broadway’s Phantom, Stomp, Drumstruck, Les Mis, Miss Saigon, The Who’s Tommy, Cleo Mack, Pasqual Rekoert’s Flexicurve, New Jersey Ballet, Royal Ballet London, North Carolina School of the Arts and the Tulsa Ballet. We believe that children never stop learning… …and that, if you provide them with an environment in which learning and play are indistinguishable, they continue to learn and grow no matter what the time of year.
In keeping with the Montessori philosophy, our Summer Program is designed to provide fun with a purpose. We believe it will provide children with an exceptional opportunity to play and learn, both indoors and outdoors, and through academic and arts enrichment, as well as physical activity.
Children need an opportunity to discover all of their gifts. We have created a program to give them that chance.
For children age three through twelve, we continue our summer tradition of a series of weekly intensives to accompany our sports, arts and academic activities, and will once again bring in extraordinary teachers and coaches to lead them.
Internationally recognized martial arts coach Shihan Austin Wright will teach Karate. Jazz recording artist and director of the New York Children
