Looking for something different for your child to do this summer? Send them to an academic summer program at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) in Newark, NJ. The Early College Preparation Programs at NJIT’s Center for Pre-College Programs offers a series of summer programs for academically talented students from post-fourth to post-eleventh grades. The programs are designed to encourage students to pursue and successfully complete education in science, mathematics, engineering and technological fields.

Hoboken Dance Academy
BROADWAY Audition Intensive Workshop
August 4th through the 13th
Instructors from Broadway’s: Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, Miss Saigon, The Who’s Tommy, Mamma Mia, The Pirate Queen and High School Musical.

Join us for a 2 week audition intensive. Learn how to become a working musical theater actor from Broadway Professionals. The 2 week intensive will cover:

* Song Presentation
* Vocal Technique
* Original Broadway Choreography
* Scene Study
* Mock audition run exactly like a professional audition (Parents invited)
* Special Guest Artist from Current Broadway Show Question and Answer session (Parents Invited)

Students will be accompanied by a pianist. Sheet music must be brought to first class and song memorized.

The 2 week intensive is 3 hours each day and will be held August 4-13.

Tuesday 1:30-4:30, Wednesday 1:00-4:00 and Thursday 1:00-4:00

Tuition for the 2 week intensive is $500.00. $250.00 due upon registration. $250.00 due on the first class. Class size is limited. Ages 8 and up. There are no make-up classes.

Instructors:
DON BREWER recently conclude a successful run starring in the Las Vegas production of Mamma Mia. He was a member of the final Broadway cast of Les Miserables, and was recently an original cast member of the new Broadway musical ‘The Pirate Queen’. His Broadway National Tour appearances include The Who’s Tommy, and The Will Roger’s Follies starring Mr. Larry Gatlin. Regionally, he is best known for his highly acclaimed portrayal of Joseph in Tarrytown’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream-coat.

LISA CAPPS is the only woman ever to perform all three leading ladies in the Broadway and National Touring Companies of Les Miserables: Eponine, Cosette and Fantine. She starred opposite Lea Salonga in the Philippine premiere of Miss Saigon (as Ellen) , and also appeared as Mrs. Walker in two National Touring Companies of The Who’s Tommy. TV audiences best remember Lisa as ‘Debbie’ on the hit ABC series Growing Pains.

KATE WRAY grew up in Gloucestershire, England, and trained at the Royal Ballet School in London, where she received the Teachers’ Training Course diploma, graduating in 1993. Along with her diploma, she received her teaching certifications for Cecchetti Technique and National Dance, both awarded with distinction, as well as for the Royal Academy of Dance Syllabus, Character, and Spanish Dance. Kate was a ballet instructor at schools in Gloucester and London before becoming an original cast member of the Basel, Switzerland production of The Phantom of the Opera. She spent two years in Basel, and then returned to London to join the West End production of Phantom. After getting married in 1998 and moving to New York, she joined her husband as a cast member of the Broadway Phantom, and then went on to play the principal role of Meg for four and a half years on the National Tour of Phantom, performing in over 40 cities across the United States and Canada.

Spend the summer at the Newark Museum’s Camp Junior Museum, an innovative six-week experience that weaves exciting connections among the arts, culture nature and science. Each day’s schedule includes studio art, summer games, creative expression and visits to one or more of the Museum’s 80 galleries.

During our six-week sessions campers will have the opportunity to participate in at least three sessions per week of each activity, developing skills in our studios and labs. Classes are from any of our four course areas: Creative Studio Arts, Expressive Arts, Environmental Science and Engineering and Athletics. Each age group participates in four classes per day—two before lunch with a break, and two following lunch with a break and snack.

Groups are divided according to age as follows:
3 & 4 year olds, 5 & 6 year olds, 7 & 8 year olds, 9 & 10 year olds
11-13 year olds, 14 & 15 year olds, 16 & 17 year olds.

Enrollment is limited to 15 children per group to ensure campers receive lots of personal attention.

Activities are age-appropriate and may include digital photography, sculpture, ceramics, drawing, painting, fiber art, architecture and housing development, theater, African dance and drumming, glass working, yoga, gross-ology, fractal geometry of nature, kitchen science, the science and art of Hula-Hooping. All campers will enjoy outdoor activities in the Museum’s sculpture garden (weather permitting) as well as indoor performances, concerts, films and planetarium shows. Parents and guardians must provide daily lunch and snacks.

Non-Newark residents:
Non-Members: $165 per child, per week
Members: $155 per child per week
