• What Hoboken and Hudson County Needs to Know About Swine Influenza

In light of the recent swine influenza outbreak the Office of Emergency Management at Hoboken University Medical Center is prepared for an influenza pandemic should one occur in the Hudson area. “We’re ready,” said Dr. Angelo Caprio, Director of Medical Care Management and Emergency Management. “This hospital trains and prepares for many emergency situations on an ongoing basis. In the event that we do have swine influenza patients enter our hospital doors ¬– our doctors, nurses and lab technicians are trained and ready to react. ”

While residents may be concerned about their health and the spread of swine influenza, Hoboken UMC officials want to reassure the public. “Cases reported in the U.S. so far have been mild,” stressed Dr. George Safran, Director of Emergency Services. “Residents have no need to panic. Know the signs and symptoms as well as the criteria for swine influenza.”

They were also filming the presentation of the cake for the upcoming TLC series Cake Boss, about Buddy Valastro, Carlo's Master Baker--who served the cake. The series premiers on April 19th at 10pm.

  • CABIN FEVER WAS HOT!

Our largest snow fall of the year held off just long enough for us to host our 7th Annual Cabin Fever Festival at the Elks Club. Like last year we used this event as a means to boost membership, we were successful and enrolled 50 new families into the Alliance.

The event was filled with entertainment from several local vendors, games from Big Fun Toys, Photo Booth from kennethchenphotography.com, HUMC Infant CPR Demonstrations, Lead Safety through Hudson Perinatal Consortium, Fancy Balloons from Totally Zany Dan, Face Painting with Rachel Evans, Computer Demonstrations from Little Detectives, Gymnastics by the Little Gym of Jersey City, Musical Demonstrations by Garden Street Music, Brownie Troop 2402 of Hoboken and Arts & Crafts from Smocks and Giggles. Thank you to all of the people and merchants that offered time and resources to make our event extra special.
